DIXFIELD, ME -- Ira Augustus Gammon, Jr., 71, died Thursday, June 28, 2012 at his home on the Norton Road, Dixfield Maine with his loving family by his side. He was born in Peru, Maine on May 23, 1941, the son of Ira and Mary (Lufkin) Gammon, Sr., and had attended schools in Andover and Peru, Maine. At a very young age he left school and went to work logging, using a horse drawn team for hauling. He built a successful business working several years for International Paper and 7 Islands. He had a great interest in registered cattle and training oxen for the fairs where he was a familiar figure and won many ribbons and trophies. He enjoyed wheeling and dealing and usually got the best deal. He also enjoyed gardening, reading and had a great sense of humor. Ira was a man of many talents, whether building construction or keeping the skidders in good running condition for logging. He was married in Steep Falls, ME on June 5, 1999 to Joyce Stiles Gammon who survives of Dixfield. Other survivors include daughter Lori Kersey and husband Leo III of Dixfield; grandchildren Brooke, Erik and Leo Kersey IV of Dixfield and Rosie Arsenault of Canton; step children Nick Rossi and wife Patricia of Casco, Peter Rossi and companion Debbie Farrah of Bridgton and Lori Marier and husband Marc and their daughter Juliette of Hong Kong; brothers Clifford of Peru and Frank Gammon of Andover; sisters Mary Bailey and husband Clarence and Marilyn White of Andover; several nieces and nephews; and was predeceased by a son Kevin Gammon of Andover and step-son Pat Rossi of Raymond. GAMMON – Ira Augustus Gammon, Jr., 71, of Dixfield died Thursday June 28, 2012 . Graveside services will be conducted 11 AM Monday, July 2, 2012 at the Demerritt Cemetery, West Peru, Maine with Pastor Ken Wagstaff officiating.
