Obituary for Billy Roy

FLORIDA – April 1, 2019 I lost my best friend of 60 years. Bill was one of ten children born to Raoul and Clarice Roy of Rumford, ME. He was educated and graduated in Rumford, ME. He worked in the paper mill for forty-two years and retired as a foreman of maintenance. He married Judy Swett in 1958 and together they had four children.
Billy was a little league coach for many years. His team was a called the red Sox of course. They won the little league championship in 1972. He and his family loved climbing the largest mountain in the area, White Cap and picking blueberries. Bill loved camping with family and friends. Camping in Andover with his son and Memorial weekend with his daughters. His biggest passion in life was the red Sox team. Having his family sing the Carl Yastrzemski song before each game.
He became President of the Fraternal Order of eagles in 1972 and is still a member. He was quite a jokester, always playing jokes on everyone, especially his wife, children and friends. He always loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. Billy loved being a dad and teaching his children to hunt, fish and play baseball. He loved to fish, hunt, golf, bowl and play horseshoes. He loved woodworking and made furniture for family and friends.
In 1981 he fulfilled a dream of buying land. Judy laid out the plans, Bill drew up the blueprint and he built their dream home in Maine. At his home he loved gardening and taking care of his yard.
In 1998 he was offered an early retirement at the paper mill. Retiring at age 59. In 1999 they headed on a new adventure to Florida. They bought a home in the Stonehedge Community where he became involved in all the activities, including being chairman of the Pancake Breakfast for 8 years., Captain of the shuffleboard team for 10 years and he also worked at the spring fair and made lots of great friends. Together with friends in the community they traveled often and went on cruises and traveled to many states as couples.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, sons Jonathan and Randy, his four brothers, Rob, Ray, Gene, Joe and his sister Vivian.
He is survived by his wife Judy, daughter Renee and husband Jim Derouche, their children Michelle and husband Kevin Furbush, Valerie and husband Yannick Bonte, Craig and four great-grandchildren Cooper, Brooklyn, Isaac and Harper all from Skowhegan, ME, his son Christopher and partner Karen of Andover, ME, Ryan and wife Ashley of Livermore, ME, Megan Roy of CA and two great-grandchildren William and Colt Roy. Four sisters, Millie Schriner and Julie McInnis of North Carolina, Janine and Frank Duffy of Florida and Anette and Stan King of Florida.
